Gledajući vaše bračke projekte, nameće se misao o jednoj specifičnoj
vrsti kontekstualnosti. Na prvi pogled bi se moglo reći da su
vaši projekti radikalni u smislu korištenja natur betona i čistih
geometrijskih oblika te da su izvan onog što se u postmodernizmu
zvao duh mjesta. Međutim, u drugom koraku se pokazuje upravo suprotno
– da su u suglasju s okruženjem i prirodom u kojem se nalaze.
Kao da postoji svojevrsna organika između materijala koji koristite
i onog što čini dati prostor i dati kontekst.

Kao mladi arhitekt uvijek sam se pitao kako je moguće napraviti
modernu arhitekturu na zasadi tradicije, a da to ne bude samo
gola parola. To je moguće, ali kako? Trebalo je dosta vremena
da savladam tradicionalnu arhitekturu i da je potpuno razumijem
kako bih mogao ići dalje. Isprepletenost prirode i kuće je ono
što mi je blisko, čemu sam težio. Kad gledate Kuću Dimov s mora,
natur beton nije po boji daleko od kamena koji već ima patinu,
a i jedan i drugi materijal omogućuju jedan fini kompaktni volumen.
Za moj pristup bio je važan meni najdraži splitski arhitekt Ivo
Radić, s kojim se povremeno nađem i koji tako jednostavno i jasno
objašnjava svoju arhitekturu. On je uvijek je primjenjivao na
fasadi ravni salonit koji je isto tako po boji blizak kamenu s
prirodnom patinom.
Odnos prema moru ne smije biti bezobrazno nametljiv i sebičan.
More je prisutno u mjeri u kojoj je to potrebno s obzirom na sadržaj
i prostor u kojem se kuća nalazi i važno je u oblikovanju kuće.

Your Brač projects seem to indicate a specific kind of context.
At first glance, your projects look radical, since you use raw
concrete and clean geometric shapes, and they seem outside the
“spirit of the place”, as postmodernists would say. On second
viewing, however, one sees the opposite: they are in harmony with
their surroundings and nature. As if there were an organic link
between the materials you use and the essence of the given space
and context.

As a young architect, I always wondered how to make tradition-based
modern architecture and not just talk about it. It seemed possible,
but how? I spent a long time learning about traditional architecture
to understand it completely and move on. A house entwined with
nature – this is close to my heart, this is what I was striving
for. When you look at the Dimov House from the sea, the colour
of raw concrete reminds you of weathered stones, and both materials
make for a fine compact volume. My approach was influenced by
Ivo Radić, my favourite architect from Split. We get together
occasionally, and he has a very simple and clear way of explaining
his architecture. His works are always ago, he started covering
façades with flat asbestos cement sheets, another material that
has a similar colour as naturally weathered stones.
The relationship with the sea should not be impudently aggressive
and selfish. The sea is present as much as necessary, in view
of content and surroundings of the house, and it is important
for the design of the house.
